Tips For A Smooth Move

Plan your move well in advance.
If you are selling your house, start packing non-essentials before the listing. Not only are you ahead of your moving plans but packing items away in boxes opens space in your house for potential buyers to see. A closet stuffed full of out-of-season clothes may signal to the buyer that there is not enough closet space or that closets are simply too small.
For buyers, your search could take days or months, but if you are shopping for a new home then you plan to move. Get non-essential items packed early so you are ready to go.
Get written estimates from movers for your in-town or out-of-state move. Do not get an online or over-the-phone estimate. It should be from someone who comes into your home and sees what you have. You don’t have to give an exact address, since you may not have one yet, just the zip code you are going to. Advance quotes can help you budget your move.
Know the difference between a moving company and a moving broker. A broker will sell your move to a moving company, and it will cost more.
Confirm that your mover carries appropriate insurance. Ask your homeowners or renter’s insurance company if they cover your move, too. Request a certificate of insurance from the moving company and make sure they are licensed to carry into Florida. Look into liability coverage if you are having your vehicles moved. There is a difference between released value and full value protection. Discuss this with your mover to get the proper coverage.
When the contract for your new home is approved, confirm dates and the new address with your chosen moving carrier. Let your insurance company know where you are going.
Will they pack for you? That is an extra charge and includes labor and supplies. If you plan to box your items yourself, your quote may give you an idea of how many boxes you should purchase. Moving companies will not pack any liquid items that have been opened. These include shampoo, disposable floor mop pads, liquor, condiments like ketchup and soy sauce, laundry detergent, lawnmower gasoline. While gasoline would be dangerous to transport, if you pack your own liquid items, be sure to put them in secure tight plastic bags for leak protection.
Pets will be in the way on moving day so find someone to watch your furr friend or have it boarded. Moving can stress a pet, so a spa day or just another location to chill will be helpful for your pet to adjust.
Children can be helpful at most ages so give them something to do, with guidance, of course. If they cannot help, arrange a playdate or trip to a relative’s house.
